A More Virtualized World
According to the National Council of Nonprofits, charitable nonprofits continue to be challenged by limited resources, increased demands and the need to be an active vocal advocate for their mission. Where possible, organizations are keeping their employees safe from Covid-19 by working remotely. As the world becomes even more virtual, the quality of an organization’s website is more important than ever. It’s time to assess yourself:- How does your google ranking compare to your competitor(s)? Are you appearing on the first page for your desired key search terms? Do your competitor(s) outrank you?
- How does your website loading speed and performance compare to industry averages? If your website loads slowly or hangs up, that can be a deterrent to online donors.
- Does your meta data reflect your key messages and mission?
Contra Dancing is for Singles!
For example, a friend of mine is active in contra dancing. He is on the board of the “Friday Night Dancers” – the largest dance in the greater Washington DC Baltimore area. When searching “Contra Dancing Maryland” their site comes up near the bottom of the first page. My recommendation is to get a link from the Contra Dancing sites that rank above them.
This group wants to recruit new dancers and raise awareness that contra dancing is a great place for singles (that you don’t need a partner). When searching simply “dancing Maryland” – they drop off of the first page entirely. Searching “singles dance Maryland” they likewise do not appear. Instead, singles dance-related Meetup groups rank #1 and #2. In addition to creating content with those messages, they should include this info in their page titles and meta data to increase their ranking. They should also look at all of the pages that outrank them and see if there is an opportunity to ask for a link from them to their site.
